A Pink Affair

Why do bad things always happen to the nicest people?  That’s a question I’ve been wondering since July when my friend got diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized to her bones.   I mean seriously!  What otherwise healthy, fit and extremely generous young mother of 3 would this happen to?  She’s a fantastic friend, always positive, gives to whoever needs it, nurturing, non-judgmental, extremely patient and beautiful inside and out.

And now she’s sick… although you wouldn’t know it.  Other than the expertly wrapped scarves she wears wrapped around her head you would never know that she just finished her first round of chemo.  She still has her beautiful skin, her remarkable smile and her winning attitude.  And it’s due to her winning attitude that she was able to come back from her latest PET scan with a prognosis of "no metabolic activity".  Of course, with something as serious as stage 4 cancer she still is continuing with the recommended treatment which will start at the beginning of the new year.  Radiation and a few surgeries are in her near future but again with her inspiring attitude and the love of her friends and family around her we know she’ll pull through it all with grace and fortitude.

As she’s such a dear friend we are holding a fundraising event in her honor on the 13th of December and we’re calling it ‘A Pink Affair’.  Her (and our) favorite holiday band, The Yule Logs, will be here at Nantucket Home performing for the evening.  It will be a casual evening with wine, food and raffle prizes.  And Pink!  We’re asking everyone to wear something pink in support of breast cancer awareness. I’m sure she’ll be wearing her pink wig that of course, looks terrific on her… I mean, who can pull of a pink wig?  She can!
You wouldn’t believe the outpouring of support we’re getting from many of our vendors as well as many local businesses.  And it makes sense as she has always been an avid supporter of local businesses.  We’ll have tables (yes, plural) filled with really, really good raffle items.  We’ll have some BIG items that we’ll auction off to the highest bidder like a bathroom remodel from Granite Transformations and personal training from Norcal Strength and Conditioning.  The list goes on and on but I’ll keep most of the items a surprise for those attending.  We hope you can make it.  You won’t be disappointed.   And the biggest bonus is that you’ll get to be a part of something great for a great person.  You may even get a bit of that optimistic mojo that our friend radiates (wrong word perhaps but you get the point).

For $35 tickets click here (for credit card) or come in to the showroom with cash or check.  All proceeds will go to her upcoming treatment.

Thank you for your support,

Sara
