No one likes bringing work home from the office, but if you can make your work space a place you want to be, it can make all the difference. Home offices are very common in homes and making them a place in the house you actually want to spend time in is much easier than you think!

Clear the clutter: Get organized! Everyone has their own specific way of organizing their thoughts and things, so do what works best for you. Cabinets and shelving work great for storing things that you don’t need on a daily basis. Placing things out of sight makes an office space much cleaner and easier to work in.

Desk top organizers make it easy for keeping clutter at a minimum while also allowing you easy access to things you need to quickly grab. I like having sticky notes, pens, and a stapler on hand. Having them already in plain view saves me time by not riffling through a messy drawer. If you don’t want to purchase a desk top organizer, jars and mugs work great for storing small office supplies.

Placing a wall calendar in your home office is an easy way to stay organized and on top of all the things you need to do. Also, a classic bulletin board is always good to have for pinning up ideas and reminders. If you want a sleeker look though, try a chalk board or even painting part of your wall with “chalk board paint”. I think the black looks great in any office and it’s a fun way to write down anything you need to!

Make it comfortable: Nothing is worse than working long hours and being uncomfortable. Make the environment of your work space cozy and comfortable. Take time to find the right chair for you and even add a comfy pillow for back support if you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk. Adding a rug under your desk will make the space more inviting too. Having a soft rug underneath your desk will be a relief for your feet.

Escape: Staring at a computer screen or sitting still at a desk for a long time can drive anyone crazy. Your home office should be a place you don’t mind spending time in. Find a good balance between work and escape for your office. Remember: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”? You want to make your office a place you want to be in. Placing your desk near a window will allow for natural lighting which is easier on your eyes but still allows for some day dreaming possibilities. Candles and a great desk lamp also will help with lighting the area. Candles may not scream professional office, but for your home work space they can bring an element of comfortable and relaxation. In addition to that, bringing a plant or some of your favorite flowers to the space will also make your office feel like stiff.

Or try something faux like one of these lovely faux orchids.  They won't  take up much space and will add a pop of color to any working environment. Plus they are bright and fresh looking to keep your inspiration flowing.

Inspire & Personalize: Really make your space your own! Decorate your home office anyway you want to make it most suitable to your tastes. Place fun and inspiring quotes in frames and place them on the wall for a daily pick me up. Family photos on your desk and little knick-knacks will bring some fun to your work area. My work space at home is surrounded by my favorite photos and fun knick-knacks. Don’t be afraid to use colors and patterns either! Whatever you do, make sure that your office space is not only organized and functional but also a place you don’t mind spending a lot of time in.
